⚖️ The pressure for perfection in emotional regulation is one of the sneakiest forms of self-sabotage in trauma recovery. When we slip up, the inner critic often launches a punitive attack that does far more damage than the original trigger.

What if the goal wasn't flawless control, but simply taking 1% of the edge off your reaction?

In my latest post, The 1% Rule: Managing Imperfect Regulation With Grace, I explore how shifting away from all-or-nothing thinking helps us trade shame for small, sustainable moments of agency.

Instead of demanding a 100% serene response, the 1% rule looks like:

     • Pausing for 15 minutes before hitting send on a reactive email.

     • Sending a single text to a trusted friend when you feel the urge to fully isolate.

     • Grounding yourself for 60 seconds when an emotion bubbles up in public.

Every tiny, conscious pause rewires the pathway, proving to your nervous system that you can survive the feeling without letting it destroy you. There is no failure in recovery—only data points and opportunities for grace.
