When we talk about trauma recovery, the focus almost always lands on the heavy work: processing grief, managing flashbacks, and setting boundaries. But sustainable healing requires an equally strong commitment to the light.


Trauma leaves the nervous system in a chronic state of alarm, creating a biological scarcity of “happy chemicals” like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. In this state, the activities we genuinely enjoy aren't just frivolous distractions—they are deliberate, functional neurological interventions.


Whether it's watching a comfort show, knitting, or organizing your spice rack, what sparks joy matters in realistic recovery.
