🛑 The Problem Was Conditioning, Not You.
As you progress in trauma recovery, clarity brings a unexpected trap: looking back at past mistakes and concluding that you were just "doing life wrong."
This conclusion is painful, unjust, and counterproductive to healing.
Here is the distinction every survivor needs to internalize:
🧠 What you didn’t choose (The Conditioning): Your brain and nervous system were wired to survive an unsafe environment.
• Emotional dysregulation = Fight/Flight response to chaos.
• People-pleasing = Fawn response to stay safe.
• Self-blame = Internalizing an abuser’s deflection.
These weren't choices; they were sophisticated survival strategies installed when you were powerless. You weren't "doing life wrong"—you were running corrupted software installed under duress.
🌿 What you choose now (The Agency): Recovery isn't about condemning your past self for surviving; it’s about giving that version of you grace while rewriting the patterns today.
